Baseball News - OC going to The OC; Cabrera an Angel
![]() Orlando Cabrera will join his teammate from Montreal, Vladimir Guerrero, in Anaheim with a chance to make a name for himself, after being signed by the Angels on Monday. No, it's not what you are thinking -- or is it?. If you are thinking of Orlando Cabrera, then you are right. He is headed to Anaheim to play for Anaheim. This will be Cabby's third Major League club, after he started his career playing under the shadow of Vladimir Guerrero in Montreal, who he is now reunited with once again in Anaheim. Terms of the deal are for 4 years, totalling $32 million, making $8 mill in 2005. After being acquired by the eventual World Champion Boston Red Sox at the trade deadline from the now defunked Expos, Cabrera went on a hot streak, hitting .294 with 6 HR, 31 RBI, and 4 SB in 58 games. However, he really hit heated it up in the postseason, going .288 with 11 RBI. Overall, he hit .264 with 10 HR and 62 RBI stealing 16 bases during the regular season. Cabby won his only Gold Glove in 2001 with the Expos. He will replace David Eckstein at short, who was not offered salary arbitration for 2005, who is expected to fill another team's utility role. In his career, Orlando has batted .268 with 72 homers, 412 ribbees, and 97 stolen bases. As well, he committed only 15 errors all season long, 8 of those with Boston. Though OC was not a household name in Montreal, people will start to learn his name, much like they did with another former-Expo in Vladimir Guerrero. That's what Orlando Cabrera will get to do in Anaheim. Could the signing of the 1-time Gold Glover be a re-tooling towards another deep World Series run? Many will say no, but with Artie Moreno as your owner, you just never know. by Brendan Colameco on 12/20/04
