Baseball News - Mets sign Pedro Martinez to 4 year, $56 million contract

After reports that Martinez signing in Boston was imminent, the Mets offered a guaranteed 4th year to the 33-year-old right-hander. Pedro's new contract will pay him 56 million dollars over the next 4 years, a 3.5 million pay cut from last season.

Martinez started 33 games for the Red Sox last year, striking out 227 in 217 innings, going 16-9. He will anchor a Mets rotation that is expected to include Tom Glavine, Kris Benson, Steve Trachsel and Victor Zambrano.

The Mets and Red Sox are also discussing a trade that could include the Mets' Kaz Matsui and Cliff Floyd for outfielder Manny Ramirez. The Mets have reportedly turned down a straight up Floyd for Ramirez swap for financial reasons.
