Baseball News - Giambi Brothers Admit to taking Steroids
![]() Just when steriod talks where becoming second to the talks of free agency and trade rumors, the rumors resurface. Jason Giambi admitted to a federal grand jury that he has taken human growth hormones and steroids. "Did Mr. Anderson provide you with actual injectable testosterone?" Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey Nedrow asked the New York Yankees Jason Giambi. "Yes," responded Giambi. Nedrow asked, "OK. And this injectable T, or testosterone, is basically a steroid, correct?" "Yes," Giambi replied. "And did he talk to you about the fact it was a steroid at the time?" Nedrow asked. "Yeah, I mean, I -- I don't know if we got into a conversation about it, but we both knew about it, yes," Giambi informed the grand jury. Jason only played in 80 of the New York Yankees games this year, and had a career low batting average of .208. Giambi missed most of the season due to injuries. Jason Giambi signed a seven year, $120 million dollar contract after the 2001 in which he batted .342, with 38 home runs and 120 RBI's. Giambi's batting averaged decreased .134, a rather large amount for his caliber. The Yankees hope Jason can return to his old self, without steriods. The Yankees lack depth at first after trading Nick Johnson to the Expos last year. by Phillip White on 12/02/04
