Hockey News - Predators' veteran Zholtok dead at age 31
![]() Nashville Predators' center Sergei Zholtok has died at the young age of 31. According to a Latvian newspaper, he died of an apparent cardiac arrythmia, which he was diagnosed with last year. He was slowly becoming one of the NHL's most reliable third liners, which was evident in 2003-2004, where he recorded 31 points, scoring 14 goals and 17 assists. Zholtok's death brings up this question: should an athlete with a serious heart disease such as cardiac arrythmia, be allowed to play? Not only is it a huge health risk, but there is the chance that you can die. In 588 career games, Zholtok has 111 goals and 147 assists for 258 points. He's originally a third round pick of the Boston Bruins in the 1992 Entry Draft. Zholtok died while playing for his native Latvia in an European league. Sergei should have considered his health first, but in the end, cardiac arrythmia, did not consider him -- or his life, and now, he's gone. He will be leaving behind a wife, two adopted children, many friends, and of course, his teammates. by Brendan Colameco on 11/03/04
