Hockey News - Chelios lashes out at NHL commissoner

Detroit Red Wings Defenseman Chris Chelios made comments regarding the NHL lockout in an interview with the Detroit Free Press on Thursday. "You know, I don't speak for Mr. Ilitch, but I don't think he wants anything to do with this, and a great indication of that is Gary Bettman won't let (the owners) talk," Chelios said this week. "How can an owner that's not in favor of this have no opinion and not speak his mind? The guys who know how to run their teams, they should let them speak. What do you want, to be fined $50,000 every time you open your mouth? It's ridiculous. Bob Goodenow's not stopping us from talking."
This isn't the first time Chelios took a shot at the commissoner, as back in 1994, when the NHL was first locked out by the very same Bettman, he called him a "disgrace to hockey" and an "embarrasment". Chelios has 2 Stanley Cups under his belt, and has been to the Cup Finals three times in his Hall of Fame career. Chelios has said that he would like to see "The Great One", Wayne Gretzky as commissoner, who is currently entering the final year of a contract with the Phoenix Coyotes as the Managing Partner.
The lockout appears to be headed to January, where Chris says Bettman will feel the pressure of the fans and players hard.
Like all NHLers, Chelios needs to stay in shape for when hockey does return, and will do so by training for the 2006 Greek Bobsled team. He is of Greek ancestry, and therefore, is allowed to train for the country.

The Wings D-Man knows, though, that hockey is in a dead end with nowhere to turn, unless they want to turn. He also went on to say that Gary Bettman should be in the NBA, and is not the right fit for the NHL, and is turn, trying to make it into the NBA. His 43rd birthday is January 25th.
