Hot Corner - K2's Second Surgery Successful
![]() Kellen Winslow underwent successful surgery Wednesday morning to stabilize ligaments in his injured right ankle. Winslow was hurt while diving to recover an onside kick in the final seconds of the Browns’ 19-12 loss in Dallas two weeks ago. As Winslow went after the ball, his legs got caught up in a pile with teammates Barry Gardner and Eric Westmoreland. He had surgery two days later. Personally, I think Winslow had it coming with all of his trash-talking. He had a huge bullseye across his chest and it was more than ready to be hit. Browns trainer Mike Colello said post-operation X-rays revealed nothing of alarm, but a routine post-op exam Tuesday showed a widening between the tibia and fibula in Winslow’s leg. “That’s when it was determined that we needed to have (the ligaments) stabilized,” Colello said. After the first surgery, it was thought that Winslow might return to action later this season. Colello said the new timetable for recovery is 4-5 months, meaning Winslow’s rookie season is over. Early reviews were overwhelmingly positive for the 6-foot-4, 250-pounder, who was expected to be a major contributor to the Browns' offense and special teams this season. The No. 6 overall pick, Winslow had four catches for 39 yards in the season-opening win over Baltimore. And although he had just one reception for 11 yards against Dallas, Winslow was open several times but quarterback Jeff Garcia either didn't see him or overthrew the former University of Miami star. Colello said Winslow is resting at home, and his prognosis is excellent. “I have absolute, total confidence that he’ll be back and be everything we thought he would be,” Browns coach Butch Davis said.
