Football News - Jets Sign Carter to One Year Deal

Apparently the New York Jets aren't happy with their current backups to quarterback Chad Pennington. Neither second year pro Brooks Bollinger and former CFL player Ricky Ray did it for New York, so they went out and agreed with Quincy Carter on a one year deal.

Carter could be considered a steal from the 2001 NFL draft, being selected out of Virginia in the second round by the Dallas Cowboys. He has a somewhat impressive resume consisting of starting all 31 games he played for Dallas, including 17 last year. His impressive 29 career touchdowns are marred by the sky-high 36 interceptions. In his stint in Dallas, he ran 140 times for 498 yards.

Friday night the Jets play the Giants, but Carter isn't likely to play. However, the pre-season finale will be his time (September 3rd against Philadelphia) to see time on the playing field once again.

Tuesday served as Carter's first day of practice with his new squad, where he only threw a few passes.

"I'm looking forward to being a Jet and also helping this football team winning games however I can,'' Carter said. "I'm just so excited to have a job right now.''
