Baseball News - Dodgers pull out of Johnson deal
The deal would have sent the Dodgers RHP Javier Vasquez, along with 3B Eric Duncan and C Dioner Navarro from the Yankees, and RHP Mike Koplove from Arizona. In exchange the Big Unit and LHP Kaz Ishii would be sent to the Bronx, with RHP Brad Penny, OF Shawn Green, RHP Yhency Brazoban and RHP Brandon Weeden going to Arizona. "The deal is no more. I've been saying all along that we weren't going to do the deal unless it made sense for this club in 2005, and that was not the case," said Dodgers GM Paul DePodesta. Randy Johnson was 16-14 last season despite a 2.60 ERA and 290 Ks in 245 IP. For the time being, the Yankees have shifted their attention toward former Astros center fielder, Carlos Beltran. With Arizona intent on trading Johnson, and the Yankees intent on getting Johnson, what 3rd team will be involved next? Will the Diamondbacks settle for a package of Vasquez, Duncan and Navarro? Stay tuned. by Kevin Sandkuhl on 12/21/04
